Learn from experts at the top of their fields
We believe there is unique, powerful knowledge out there, learned by experience. People who are at the top of their fields rarely have the time to share what they’ve learned. That’s why we curate leading experts and practitioners who share their know-how in paid workshops, webinars, and ask-me-anything sessions into our Remote Academy. Every remote session will serve up tactics that you can use today to change the way you build technology and can transform your company and your career.

Trainer: Jan Kiekeben, Language: English
Topic: Design Critique – How to discuss design with critique
For this Ask me Anything session, Digitale Leute is hosting Jan Kiekeben, Senior Product Designer at XING.
Designers like to discuss products, design, user experience and everything else that goes with them. However, when we get feedback about our own work, we are quickly emotionally attacked. When we talk to non-designers about design, we often get lost in ineffective, lengthy discussions – and when we talk about failures or problems, it often ends with mutual accusations.
In this AMA, Jan would like to talk about the methodology of „design critique“ and the goal-oriented discussion in the entire design process: How can we avoid the situations mentioned above? Why do we need Design Critique for this? When is feedback necessary and helpful – and how do you establish an effective design discussion culture in teams and companies?
The participants will learn:
- Discussing design and giving/receiving feedback is a skill that we need to practice in order to get better.
- A professional discussion about design begins with a well understood objective. When we argue towards objectives, we are able to eliminate personal attacks and judgements.
- We need to create an environment where a professional discussion can happen. It is key to foster a culture where feedback is a gift and not something to be afraid of.
- By telling my story about how I created a company-wide design critique format at XING, I want to inspire the audience to take action and practice in their own style.
Who should attend:
Designers and design leaders who want to level up their design process for themselves, their teams and their organization
